Central Region

In the world of economics the term CEE (Central Eastern Europe) has gained more and more momentum over the course of the last decade. As more and more countries joined the European Union as foreign investment soared Europe

Central Region, one of the 9 regions within BEST, is arguably the most diverse of all.

It is comprised of 11 Universities coming from 7 countries, all of which have close cultural and historic ties with one another.

BEST is a fast and constantly growing network of European students. To be better able to absorb new members into existing structures, nine so called transnational “Regions” were introduced. Since then BEST has been enriched by the new possibilities of regional cooperation between neighboring universities. One of the most exciting of those regions is BEST Central Region; a diverse group consisting of nine countries with very close cultural, economical and historical ties (Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Rumania, Slovakia and Slovenia). 11 universities out of these countries form what we call Central Region.

In the beginning Central was little more than a biannual sharing-forum between the BEST-groups. But in time we all came to appreciate and understand each other more and more. Joint trainings for our members, joint leisure activities, increased traveling between our respective cities, even more Erasmus-students going to study within Central because of BEST were the consequence. In 2009 we took the next step: A joint event targeted to the external world: the Central European BEST Engineering Competition 2009, hosted in Vienna, on the 2nd Edition of which you now read those words.

As BEST continues to grow and spread over Europe and beyond Central will continue to endeavor to bring Central Europe closer together, for students, for universities and for our corporate partners. Laying the foundations for sustainable and successful ceBECs in the years to come is only one part of this, our shared, goal.

Central encompasses 9 countries, 11 universities and 300 members. In 2009 BEST Groups in Central organised 11 BEST courses, 15 Local Engineering Competitions as well as a substantial number of BEST internal events, such as train-shops or regional meetings.
